VG- (3.5). Cover bound a bit off-center with some image loss to spine of front cover, staples pulled, crease marks to front cover, abrasions to back cover, cigarette burn to last two leaves and inside back cover, affecting several panels of Kamen story. Cream to off-white pages. Professionally cleaned and pressed by Comics In A Flash. Cover: Jack Kamen Scripts: Carl Wessler and, possibly, Jack Oleck. Art: Jack Kamen (2 stories), Joe Orlando, Reed Crandall. GPAnalysis: No reported sales in this grade. A 3.0 sold for $140 in July 2020; a 4.0 sold for $200 in October 2020. Bernie Krigstein's masterpiece, the cat-and-maus concentration camp thriller "Master Race," was originally slated to appear in this mag, before being published in the first ish of Impact instead. For years, this mag's subway cover hinted this truth to savvy Fan-Addicts, until Al Feldstein confirmed the rumors in an interview with Grant Geissman. "It had often been speculated among EC collectors that this 'falling from a subway platform' cover meant that Krigstein's classic 'Master Race' (Impact #1, March-April 1955) was originally intended for this issue. Compare this cover to the events depicted at the top of page eight of 'Master Race.' After being assigned the story, Krigstein asked to increase the page count, and he re-arranged the panels on the pre-lettered pages of 'Master Race,' which caused the publication to be pushed back. Feldstein: 'Correct! It was the 6-pager for this issue and had to be replaced!'" — Grant Geissman, Tales of Terror: The EC Companion. Fantagraphics: 2000, p. 160. A deluxe limited edition of 12 hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a small number of softcovers. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $40, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Eight of the 12 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now.
