COMPLETE FIRST SERIES, vols. 1-42 bound in 34 and index to vols. 1-42, i.e. 35 vols., 8vo (234 x 240 mm.), approximately 1770 hand-coloured engraved plates after Curtis, James Sowerby Sydenham Edwards and others, any folding, contemporary speckled calf, flat spines gilt with green and red morocco labels (32 spine labels skilfully replaced recently in matching style; upper joint of index vol. split) engraved armorial bookplate of the Hon. William Henry Irby. A FINE SET, WITH THE PLATES CLEAN AND BRIGHTLY COLOURED. The first 26 vols. are bound individually and vols. 27-42 are bound two in one. Vols. 1-15 were edited by William Curtis and vols. 16-42 continued by J.Sims. Nissen BBI 2350; Great Flower Books pp. 83-84 (35)
