Cyrus Edwin Dallin (American, 1861-1944) Appeal to the Great Spirit Signed and dated "© C.E. Dallin 1913" on the top of the bronze base, stamped "GORHAM CO" "FOUNDERS" "QXC" and incised #202" on the back edge of the base. Bronze with dark brown patina, approximately 8 3/4 x 9 x 5 3/4 in. (22.2 x 22.9 x 14.5 cm). Condition: Minor abrasion and wear to the patina, dust and dirt to interstices, small hole beneath the horse's chin (as originally cast), reins missing. N.B. The Gorham Foundry cast 283 examples of this sculpture in the 9-inch size, each identified by their numbering system.
