Czechoslovakian-American Art Deco Bronze Figure of a Female Nude Bather Titled Nocturne Cast from a model by Josef Mario Korbel, dated 1920, Roman Bronze Works, NY, no. 14 Height 22 3/4 inches. Cf. Janis Conner and Joel Rosenkranz, Rediscoveries in American Sculpture Studio Works 1893-1939, Illus. p. 97 Provenance: Christie's, New York, American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture, September 27, 1996, C Estate of Leon Oxman
Appears to be in generally good condition; patina is dark and uniform throughout; some wear and rubbing to the patina notably along the top flat edge and rims of the stopped base, consistent with age and polishing etc.; some wear and rubbing to patina, notably to the figure's left thigh and knee area and rear side of the torso, some light superficial scratch and scuff marks, not of any real consequence; inscribed MARIO KORBEL 1920 with the "c" copyright symbol and numbered 14 on the reverse side and ROMAN BRONZE WORKS N.Y.
