[Stockholm, Paris: c.1667-1716]. 3 volumes in one, oblong 2° (392 x 475mm). 7 leaves of letterpress index at back. 3 engraved titles and 351 plates (some folding) on 343 leaves by Jean Le Pautre Jean Marot A.Perelle, after Dahlberg and others, extra-illustrated with an additional plate bound at the end. (All but 45 of the plates cut down and mounted to size.) Late-18th or early-19th-century swedish speckled calf, covers with greek-key border, the spine in seven compartments with raised bands, red or green morocco lettering-pieces in two compartments, the others with repeat pettern composed from various small tools, g.e. (some scuffing to the surface of the leather, joints slightly split.) Dahlberg secured the commission to record the architectural treasures of Sweden in 1661. His drawings were engraved by a team of 18 engravers; it took 21 years to complete the printing, and it was published throughout the 18th and into the 19th century. Because of the length of time the prints remained in storage many of them suffered damage to their margins: for this reason the work is often found with renewed margins. This copy seems to have been remargined at the time of binding (circa 1800), and would appear to include a number of later impressions. Berlin Kat. 2256; Brunet V.578.
