The letter is addressed to "Thirsty," and accompanied a copy of the book, apologizing for not being able to send a copy of Hunter's earlier work, which had sold out. Also signed by Hunter at the limitation. Laid in as well is a prospectus for Hunter's book, Old Papermaking, and a copy of the Chillicothe Gazette's front page story on Hunter's death. Although the limitation in the book reads 190 copies, his autobiography states that only 180 copies were produced. "One of the few major bibliographies devoted to this subject, this work enumerates seventy-two papermaking books or references" (Leonard Schlosser).
