DAVID FORRESTER WILSON RSA (Scottish 1873 - 1950) ON THE ISLAY COAST Oil on canvas, signed original gilt frame 41cm x 66 cm Note : Forrester Wilson was born in the south side of Glasgow in 1873. He enrolled at Glasgow School of Art in 1899 where he spent five years under the tuition of Professor Delville from Brussels, winning a Haldane Travelling Scholarship which saw him set out in 1905 to continue his studies in Italy, Belgium, Paris and London. Soon after his return to Scotland he bought Ravenslea in Clober Road, Milngavie and his old tutors at the School of Art invited him to join the staff. He was to become one of the GSA's most authoritative and influential figures, earning promotion to head of the drawing and painting section in 1931.In 1915 Glasgow Corporation paid a mighty £150 for Faggots" at the RGI and it is retained in the collection of Kelvingrove Museum. He was commissioned to paint the large mural in the magnificent banquetting hall of Glasgow City Chambers and enjoyed commercial success and critcal acclaim throughout his carreer. He regularly took part in the RSA and Royal Glasgow Institute exhibitions and also exhibited in Chicago Pittsburgh and Buffalo City with great success. After retiring from the GSA in 1938 he moved to Doonfoot later building a studio on Islay where despite his failing eyesight he found inspiration for magnificent landscapes and seascapes. He died there in 1950. "
