Publisher's cloth, printed paper label to the spine, preserved in custom clamshell box. 7 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches; [vi], 149 pp. Boards a bit faded and worn at extremities, spine label rubbed with some loss, foxing throughout, loss to lower corner of front free endpaper, contemporary ownership inscription to front pastedown. Rare first edition, first issue, with the "s" in "sportsmen" in the second line of p. [1] present and in the proper font. Henderson attributes authorship to J. Davis based on the Van Winkle copy, which was inscribed "with the compliments of J. Davis Author."
