[The Great or American Voyages.] Frankfurt: 1594-1617. Parts I-VI only (of 13) in one volume. Latin text. Folio (335 x 235 mm). 17th-century vellum over pasteboard, the flat spine with small panel outlined in gilt with rolls, titled in gilt within the panel. Various neat repairs (see below), part VI present in part only (see below), binding with neat repairs to spine and the board edges, endpapers replaced. Comprising: I. [Thomas Hariot's Virginia.] Admiranda narratio fida tamen, de commodis et incolarum ritibus Virginiae ... Anglico scripta sermone a Thoma Hariot. Frankfurt: Johann Wechel, "1590" [ but c.1608]. Blank F6, blank D6. Letterpress text title and imprint on two small format slips pasted onto engraved surround (as issued), letterpress title to plates, engraved arms on dedication leaf, folding engraved map of Virginia, engraved plate of Adam and Eve (the first state with inscription in the plate reading "Iodocus a Winghe in Theodore de Bry sc."), 28 fine engraved plates after John White 1 printed over two pages, 2 folding. Lacking blank D6, plates VII, XII and XVI just shaved into image area, neat repairs to first title, some light worming to upper outer margin of first 13 leaves, the holes filled in the first five leaves. SECOND EDITION, second issue. Hariot here describes the first English colony, with illustrations after the spectacular watercolors of John White and the fine map of "Virginia." Church 143. II. [Jacques Le Moyne's Florida.] Brevis narratio eorum quae in Florida Americae provi[n]cia Gallis acciderunt ... auctore Iacobo Le Moyne. Frankfurt: Johann Wechel, "1591" [but 1609]. Engraved title to the first part, letterpress title to the second, engraved arms on dedication leaf, engraved text illustration of Noah sacrificing, double-page engraved map of Florida, 42 fine engraved plates after Le Moyne, plates VI, XII and XXVI with flaps at outer margins. Lacking blank leaf H2, plates XXV and XXVI with left margins shaved with loss to the image, plates XIX and XXVI with small repaired tears to the lower outer blank margins, small tears to upper blank margin of final text leaf. SECOND EDITION. Plates after Le Moyne's lost originals illustrate this account of the attempts of French protestants to settle Florida in the 1560s. Also included is the excellent map of the region. Blank leaves R6 and F6 (probably both supplied), 2 engraved titles, 1 full-page engraved illustration of arms with virtues, folding engraved map of West Indies, engraved text illustration of Columbus led by marine deities, engraved text illustration of world map with medallion portraits of Columbus and Vespucci, 24 engraved plates numbered in Arabic numerals within plates.
