DEL CASTILLO NEGRETE, Emilio. Invasion de los Norte-Americanos en México . Mexico: By the author, 1890-91. 6 volumes, including Appendix volumes to vols. 3 and 4, 8 o (214 x 149 mm). Half-titles. 20th-century quarter calf, mottled paper boards (some light rubbing). FIRST EDITION of this scarce and important work providing a Mexican point-of-view of the Mexican War. Castillo Negrete consulted a great number of previously unpublished and unstudied documents in this work, emphasizing his conception that the war, which resulted in the loss of 55 of the Mexican territory, was preconceived many years before, and that Ambassador Poinsett, from the United States, was a key figure. This work was printed at the personal press of Castillo Negrete. This work is very rare, not mentioned in Streeter, Howes, Eberstadt, Decker or American Book Prices Current for at least 30 years.
