Description: Large Two-Per-Turn Musical Box by L'Epée, c. 1882 Sainte-Suzanne, France, No. 2761/9230, playing 24 popular, operative and dance airs on 12 rotations of the cylinder, with 88 teeth in two combs (complete), brass comb-washers, massive lever-wound spring and four-blade compensated governor, in impressive ebony-veneered case with red interior, tune-sheet, boxwood stringing and extensive floral inlay on front, sides and lid, width 30 in. (76 cm), cylinder 18 ¼ in. (46,5 cm) x 3 ¼ in. (8,5 cm) diameter. Couple of minor damper squeaks, but overall movement and case in good restored condition. Unusually, this movement carries two serial numbers and the tune-sheet is additionally numbered 2397. According to H.A.V. Bulleid's research in "Musical Box Tune Sheets", the L'Epée factory reset its serial numbers to "1" in c. 1880, making movement 2761 a relatively early production within the first years of the new batch.
