DESMOULINS, Camille (1760-1794). Autograph manuscript ( incomplete ) of the second part of a long article on the freedom of the press, 'Suite de l'article - Liberte de la presse', discussing the place of the writer and satirist in society, 'L'honneur n'est certainement pas au pouvoir d'une libelliste ... le veritable honneur c'est la reconnoissance publique, c'est la consideration attachee aux services que l'on a rendu a sa patrie. C'est le sentiment interieur et la conscience de ces services qui suffiroit seul a consoler de l'ingratitude publique celui qui les a rendus', referring to Voltaire, Condorcet, and to his own situation, incomplete (ending in mid-sentence), on a bifolium, 4 pages, 260 x 180mm , numerous cancellations and revisions (discoloured, torn at margins and professionally repaired); together with a letter by his father, Jean Benoit Nicolas Desmoulins, Reunion-sur-Oise, '9 Germinal' n.y. [29 March 1793] , breaking the news of his mother's death, with an affectionate message to Camille's wife and child, ½ page, 4to , integral address leaf. (2)
