Half-title and letterpress title with woodcut vignette by and after Samuel Palmer Preliminary and postliminary advertisement leaves [A]1 and S8. Woodcut illustrations by and after Palmer, extra-illustrated with 6 original pen and ink and watercolour drawings, signed 'Kyd'. (Scattered light spotting.) Mid 20th-century blue crushed morocco gilt by Bayntun (Riviere), the upper cover with a central gilt portrait of Dickens, the covers with gilt filet borders, the spine gilt in 6 compartments, titled in 2 and dated at the foot, the other compartments decorated in gilt, roll-tooled gilt turn-ins, gilt edges. FIRST EDITION. EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED WITH 6 ORIGINAL, SIGNED PEN AND INK WATERCOLOUR DRAWINGS BY 'KYD'. The watercolours, which depict characters from the book, are titled 'The Brave Courier', 'The Government Officer', 'Antonio', 'A Pisa Beggar', 'Mr Davis' and 'The Lantern-Jawed Sacristan'.
