Autograph letter signed to Arthur Headland, 'Office of All the Year Round', 21 February 1866 , asking for the names of the agents employed for his readings at Liverpool, Cheltenham and Glasgow, and adding that Alfred (his son) is out in the London, 'that unfortunate ship', and Frank has done well in India 'and has a very high character', written in blue ink, printed heading in red and black, one page, 8° , (small scorchmark), laid in to a 4° leaf -- Sir Robert PEEL (1788-1850). Autograph letter signed to an unidentified correspondent telling that he has presented to the Commons the petition of Middleton about the Established Church, one page, 8° ; together with an autograph note signed by William Ewart Gladstone about an appointment ( 3 lines on a postcard, autograph address ) and an autograph note signed by Madame de Stael informing Monsieur de Trier about a dinner, one page, integral address leaf , all the items laid in to 4° leaves. Arthur Headland had been engaged to manage the arrangements for Dickens' reading tours, a task which unfortunately proved beyond his capabilities. (4)
