Frontispiece, vignette title-page and 38 plates by Hablot K. Browne ["Phiz"] (including the ten so-called "dark plates" in second state) (a few pale stains, offsetting and spotting). Original blue pictorial printed wrappers (some backstrips renewed, some covers with small repairs), 20th-century green cloth slipcase. Provenance: M.R. Howarth (contemporary signature to front cover parts 5,6,7, 14, 17 ); Mullins (signature part 3); A. Bailey (signature part 4); Denby Pilcher (signature part 8); S. Lawrence (signature part 11).
