Small 8vo. original brown-salmon cloth, borders of both covers blocked in blind, ornamental lettering panels gilt-blocked on front cover and spine, g.e., spine slightly faded with a light wear at ends, 1 in. of lower joint repaired, some staining and soiling to covers, corners bumped; hingescracked, a few gatherings becoming loose, early owner's inscription on front free endpaper; red quarter morocco slipcase. FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, second state according to Smith, with the following points: title-page printed in red and blue, "Stave I" as the first chapter heading, green endpapers; text uncorrected, perfect signature letter "C" at foot of p. 17; 2 pages of integral advertisements at end, hand-colored etched frontispiece and 3 hand-colored etched plates by John Leech 4 text wood engravings by W.J.
