Small 8vo. original brown-salmon cloth, borders of both covers blocked in blind, ornamental lettering panels gilt-blocked on front cover and spine, g.e., spine darkened and with wear at ends, staining and soiling to covers, corners bumped, cocked; endpapers stained and cracked at inner hinges, a few gatherings becoming loose, light browning and staining. FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, second state according to Smith, with the following points: title-page printed in red and blue, "Stave I" as the first chapter heading, green endpapers; text uncorrected, perfect signature letter "C" at foot of p. 17; 2 pages of integral advertisements at end, hand-colored etched frontispiece and 3 hand-colored etched plates by John Leech 4 text wood engravings by W.J. Linton after Leech. Smith, vol. 2, no. 4; Eckel, p.110; Sadleir 684.
