DICKENS, CHARLES Autograph letter signed; to "Mr. Adams," probably H. G. Adams, the Honorary Secretary of the Chatham Mechanics' Institute, with whom Dickens corresponded regarding readings from time to time. The letter is written on his Tavistock House stationery in blue ink, and is dated Friday, 13th March, 1860. Approximately 6 5/8 x 4 3/8 inches (17 x 11 cm), single sheet, written on one side only. 11 lines, plus salutation and felicitation, with a fine flourished Dickens signature. Minor soiling, but a clean, unfaded example of a Dickens letter, matted with a portrait. Dickens apologizes for missing a visit from Adams, and states that he will be happy to take the chair on the occasion of his friend Mr. Lazard's lecture, and goes on to note that he will not be able to accept the High Constable's hospitality.
