EXTRA- ILLUSTRATED with over 1,500 engraved portraits and scenes by various artists, items of printed ephemera, including handbills and wrappers from Dickens' works in parts, ORIGINAL SKETCHES by George Cruikshank and Hablot K. Browne, and MANUSCRIPT ITEMS, including autograph letters and notes signed by Dickens, James Emerson Tennent, James Ruskin, John Russell John Forster, Edmund Yates, and others. Early 20th-century green morocco gilt, front covers with central portrait stamped in gilt of Dickens as a young man with his signature, back covers with central portrait of Dickens in middle age with signature of "Boz," spines gilt, top edges gilt, others uncut, by Riviere and Son (some minor wear along joints, spines darkened). A VERY FINE GRANGERIZED SET recording significant scenes from Dickens' life and works, including illustrations from his novels. [ Bound in to the first volume of Life :] DICKENS. Autograph note signed declining an invitation to a speaking engagement. -- [ Bound in to first volume of Letters :] DICKENS. Autograph note signed to his bank and an autograph check signed to Tar and Sundries. (18)
