DIXON, George (1748-1795). A Voyage Round the World; but more Particularly to the North-west Coast of America. London: Goulding, 1789. The deluxe first edition, on thick paper with seven handcolored plates. Dixon’s voyage to establish a fur trade in the Pacific Northwest discovered Queen Charlotte Island, Port Mulgrave, Norfolk Bay, and the Dixon Archipelago before eventually stopping in China to trade. In addition, there are numerous leaves with minor typographical re-settings and variations hitherto unmentioned in the bibliographic literature. Cox II 27-28; Forbes 161B; Howes D-365; Hill 117; Lada-Mocarski 43; Sabin 20364; Streeter sale 3494. Quarto (296 x 235mm). 18 engraved plates, 2 of which folding, 7 of which handcolored; 5 engraved maps (without half-title, occasional faint offsetting). 19th-century black half calf over marbled-paper covered boards (rebacked preserving original spine).
