1 p. document dividing the estate of J. McD. Anderson to his six heirs: Delia, Mary, and Claiborne Pope, Mrs. Morgan, Mrs. Bradbury, and M.J. Wells. Dated 1860s. The document reads: Servants belonging to J. McD. Andersons estate: Dellia Pope: Harriet Elizabeth – Dellia will take E. next spring. Mrs. Morgan will take care of her until then. Stith Alexander Mary Pope: Wyatt John Mary Alice Claiborne Pope: Dallas Peter William Joe Evans – bought of Alex Donnan (Tuck) has partly paid for himself. Mrs. Morgan: Fanny Ella Stephen Mrs. Morgan will keep them at home. These are small children. Mrs. Bradbury: Nancy – Mrs. B. will take Nancy home. M. J. Wells: Mary Ann William -- I wish Mary Ann & William hired out. Margaret – I will take Margaret home. Respectfully, Mary J. Wells JOHN McDOWELL ANDERSON (1786-1861) was born in Sussex County, Virginia, and is buried in Blandford Cemetery Petersburg. He married Rebecca Johnson (1782- ). CLAIBORNE ANDERSON POPE (1846-1904) of Brunswick County was the eldest son of James Turner Pope (1815- ) & Rebecca Anderson Pope (1819-1848). Claiborne left the Virginia Military Institute in 1863 and enlisted in the Confederate Army. He served as Private in the 3rd Virginia Cavalry until the close of the war. He was married to sisters Harriet Field Jones and Susan Alice Jones. Claiborne's sisters included DELLIA J. POPE born about 1842 & MARY H. A. POPE born about 1845. MARY J. WELLS was possibly MARY JANE WELLS (1821-1904), daughter of Pascal and Jane S. Wells, buried in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. Condition: Dark ink on light greenish paper of good rag content. One fold line. Otherwise good condition.
