CLAIBORNE ANDERSON POPE (1846-1904) of Brunswick County was the eldest son of James Turner Pope (1815- ) & Rebecca Anderson Pope (1819-1848). Claiborne left the Virginia Military Institute in 1863 and enlisted in the Confederate Army. He served as Private in the 3rd Virginia Cavalry until the close of the war. He was married to sisters Harriet Field Jones and Susan Alice Jones. Claiborne's sisters included DELLIA J. POPE born about 1842 & MARY H. A. POPE born about 1845. MARY J. WELLS was possibly MARY JANE WELLS (1821-1904), daughter of Pascal and Jane S. Wells, buried in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. Condition: Dark ink on light greenish paper of good rag content. One fold line. Otherwise good condition.
