DOW Dow, founded in 1798, today is wholly-owned and managed by the 4th generation of the Symington family. Dow's pioneered the era of modern winemaking in the Douro and in 1997 built one of the most modern wineries in the region at Quinta do Sol. This winery is without doubt the most modern one in Portugal and is further evidence of the their commitment to the production of quality Port. Dow owns two of the Douro's finest vineyards, Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta Senhora da Ribeira. The particular style of wine produced on Bomfim has given Dow its special identity. All Ports are by definition rich, but Dow's wines are always slightly drier than the other classic Port houses. This is a more difficult style of wine to make, but as the wines age, the true quality emerges. In the great declared years, the best wines from Bomfim are selected for Dow Vintage Port and are ranked some of the best ever made. Dow--Vintage 1977 All levels: bottom neck or better; Lot 379 five signs of seepage, one slightly torn label Parcel: lots 372-379 "This is an extraordinary house that seems to have been particularly successful with its vintage port since 1977.The 1977, still a baby, is fabulously scented, very rich and concentrated, and has a potential longevity of at least another 30-50 years."
