Collation: [1 1 2 + 1 2-11 8 12 1 0 13-24 8]. 199 leaves, 55 lines and headlines, Types: 4:160G, head-lines and 5:82G 3-7 line text inital spaces one 17 line opening initial in red and blue with red and black pen-work infill and flourishes, rubricated with red and blue Lombard initials, capital strokes, and paragraph signs. (Some marginal worming at end.) Contemporay pigskin over wooden boards (lacking clasps, some staining). Provenance : some early marginalia; Frankfurt, University Library ("Liber Biblioth. Academ. Francof." bookplate); purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 21 December 1961. WITH AN EXTREMELY RARE MEDIEVAL REVOLVING VELLUM BOOKMARK made of parchment and consisting of a small revolving disk (30 mm across), pierced, knotted and partly covered so it can revolve and show one of the Roman numerals I, II, III or IIII which are placed at equal distances. The numbers mark the column, where the reader left off. The disk can be moved up and down on a strip of alum tawed pigskin (370 mm), in order to indicated the exact line where the reading ended. SURVIVING BOOKMARKS OF THIS PERIOD ARE EXTREMELY RARE. See R. Ems "Medieval rotating column indicators," Transactions of the Cambridge Bibliographical Society, XII, 2001, pp. 179-184.
