London: The Autotype Company, [c. 1897] Oblong folio (240 x 293mm.), 8pp., 100 photographic plates of original sketches, prints and photographs, original cream cloth, pictorial upper cover stamped in gilt, flat spine, red edges, floral endpapers, faint erased inscription on title, title detached, first plate torn and creased, binding marked and rubbed A RARE PUBLICATION showing scenes of Tibet, Kashmir, Afghanistan, Singapore, Malaya, India, Turkestan, Georgia, Khiva, Spitsbergen, and Finnmark, among others. Only one copy is recorded in OCLC: National Library of Scotland containing 96 plates, and only one copy has appeared at auction, sold in these rooms 15 May 2018, lot 176 (in a variant blue cloth binding with the upper cover illustration blocked in silver and with silver edges). "The accompanying reproductions, in Autotype, of rough pen and ink and water-coloured sketches, made mostly by me at various times and in various places, constitutes the first volume in a projected series of drawings representing the result of thirty-five years' travel in different parts of the world. This first set of a hundred drawings I have entitled "From Arctic to the Equator," embracing, as they do, scenes from those Countries that lie between those two parallels of Latitude, viz. 8o.
