EDITH HEAD (1897-1981) Original costume design for the red dress worn by Judy Garland in I Could Go On Singing, 1963. An ori... An original watercolor and pencil design depicting the red dress to be worn by Judy Garland in I Could Go On Singing , 1963, inscribed by Head in pencil Garland at upper right and signed Edith Head at lower left. The full sheet 17 x 14 (43 x 35.5 cm). Fine overall . I Could Go On Singing , 1963, was Judy Garland's final film role. Garland had not sung in film since her 1954 perfomance in A Star Is Born . Of her performance in the film, Dorothy Masters of the New York Daily News wrote "Judy Garland is back on screen in a role that might have been custom-tailored for her particular talents. A new song, I Could Go On Singing , provides her with a little clowning, a chance to be gay, a time for wistfulness, an occasion for tears. She and Dirk Bogarde play wonderfully well together." Garland's performance was also lauded for its vibrancy, a comment no doubt encouraged by the striking red dress designed by Edith Head for the film which was presented to audiences in Technicolor. C
