Gay is known to have painted at least one other view of Bellport, of similar size, but depicting the beach from a different vantage point. In 1880, the year this work was painted, Gay exhibited a painting at the National Academy of Design entitled By the Sea, no. 423, but it is not clear if it depicted a Bellport scene. caption: Bellport Beach Photo: Howie Guja C
