Margaret Cropper, née Denman (1815-1899), seated in mauve upholstered wooden chair, in black velvet dress with white lace collar and cuffs, white lace shawl over her fair centre-parted upswept hair, wearing gold bracelets, holding a white handkerchief; window in background, the sill set with vase of flowers on ivory rectangular with arched tops, 7 5/8 x 6 (193 x 150 mm.) and 7 7/16 x 5 15/16 in.
