Provenance : Gregg Toland (inscription from Weston; bookplate). FIRST EDITION, IN THE RARE ORIGINAL SLIPCASE. INSCRIBED BY EDWARD WESTON TO GREGG TOLAND (1904-1948), the Academy Award-winning cinematographer who worked with many of Hollywood's leading directors, including John Ford Eric von Stroheim and, most memorably, with Orson Welles on Citizen Kane . A "SPLENDIDLY DESIGNED AND IMPORTANT MONOGRAPH" ( The Photobook ). One of 550 copies signed by Weston, this one numbered 64. The Photobook , vol. I, p.8; cf. 101 Books , p.128.
