EDWARD WESTON The Art of Edward Weston . New York: E. Weyhe, 1932. Folio (340 x 260mm). 40 black and white photographs. (Light soiling in a very few margins.) Original glossy black beveled boards and white paper covered spine, spine and front board lettered in black (spine evenly browned, some soiling, extremities rubbed); original black cardboard slipcase with triangular notch (some wear, edges probably strengthened); cloth folding box. Provenance : Gregg Toland (inscription from Weston; bookplate). FIRST EDITION, IN THE RARE ORIGINAL SLIPCASE. INSCRIBED BY EDWARD WESTON TO GREGG TOLAND (1904-1948), the Academy Award-winning cinematographer who worked with many of Hollywood's leading directors, including John Ford Eric von Stroheim and, most memorably, with Orson Welles on Citizen Kane . A "SPLENDIDLY DESIGNED AND IMPORTANT MONOGRAPH" ( The Photobook ). One of 550 copies signed by Weston, this one numbered 64. The Photobook , vol. I, p.8; cf. 101 Books , p.128.
