EDWARDS, Sydenham Teak (c.1768-1819). The Botanical Register . London: James Ridgway, 1828-1832. Volumes XIV-XVIII only (of 33), 8° (239 x 148 mm). c. 434 hand-coloured engraved plates, many folding (a couple of plates with some soiling & offsetting, the vast majority fresh and clean). Contemporary green calf (boards scuffed and worn, joints rubbed). Edwards was encouraged as a botanical artist by William Curtis and worked for twenty-seven years as an artist for Curtis' Botanical Magazine (cf. lot 328). In 1815, Edwards left the Botanical Magazine to start his own periodical, The Botanical Register . Sold with a set of odd volumes with botanical plates, mostly hand-coloured. Sold as a periodical, not subject to return. (12)
