EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY COOKERY. Manuscript of recipes, entitled 'Mrs Eliz[abeth] Colchester's Receipt Book, 1722', written in several 18th-century hands, the recipes mostly numbered (1 - 321), index (loosely inserted), approximately 62 pages, folio , blanks (browned at edges, occasional spotting); stitched in contemporary vellum (darkened, spine worn at extremities). A collection of recipes for soups, meat and game, pickles, wines and particularly for cakes and desserts, ('To make Lemmon Cream', 'To make cheesecakes', 'Little Plum Cakes', 'To make Cowslip Wine', 'To make mead'). Most of the entries include the names of the persons who have provided them, including a large number from 'Mrs Elizabeth Beale', also 'Mr Carill', 'Mrs Meeskirke', 'Mr John Vergo', 'Lady Falkland', 'Lady Tyrwhitt's Mademoiselle', and others.
