EISENHOWER, DWIGHT D. The White House Years. Mandate for Change 1953-1956 ; Together with The White House Years. Waging Peace 1956-1961 . New York: Doubleday and Company, 1963-5. The first work copy 255 from the edition of 1500 copies, signed by Eisenhower as issued and warmly inscribed to Arthur Hays Sulzberger on the limitation leaf ("with the affectionate regard of his old friend"); the second also copy 255 from the edition of 1500 copies, signed by Eisenhower as issued and similarly inscribed to Arthur Hays Sulzberger ("with the warm regards of his devoted friend"), both inscriptions dated with the respective year of publication. Two volumes, publisher's tan buckram and slipcases. 9 1/4 x 6 inches (23.5 x 15.5 cm); xx, 650 pp.; xxiv, 741 pp.; maps and plates. Small loss to the head of the acetate jacket of the second volume, but in all fine copies in the original acetate jackets . Two exceptional presentation copies from Eisenhower to the erstwhile publisher of the New York Times , who had retired from that role in 1961.
