ELIOT, Thomas Stearns (1888-1965). A very fine collection of works by and about T.S. Eliot, including all but 3 of Gallup's primary first editions. Together nearly 300 volumes, including 160 first and later editions, 38 contributions to books, 94 books about Eliot and his influences, letters to Dorothy Sayers and Norman Nicholson and Eliot's copy of Ezra Pound's Personae . Most 8 o, in original bindings and with dust jackets. All books are first editions except where noted. The references are taken from Donald Gallup's T.S. Eliot: A Bibliography, A Revised and Extended Edition (New York, 1969). Items published until 1969 but not included in Gallup are noted as "Not in Gallup." The present set is a virtually complete collection of the works of T.S. Eliot, including 30 signed or inscribed books and 11 of Eliot's signed, limited editions. The only missing primary first editions are the first trade edition of Anabasis (Gallup A16a; the limited signed edition is present), Die Einheir der Europäischen Kultur (Berlin, 1946; Gallup A46; English text published as an appendix to Notes Towards the Definition of Culture , 1947) and Poems Written in Early Youth (Stockholm, 1950; Gallup A56; privately printed, only 12 copies; no copies have appeared at auction in at least 25 years). Throughout, condition is extremely fine, with dust jackets present as called for and in generally fresh, crisp condtion. Provenance : John R. Meekin. Mr. Meekin was born in Indiana, but spent most of his life in New York City. He began collecting in the 1960s, and over 40 years developed a reputation for acquiring the finest copies available. His outstanding Eliot collection, virtually complete, typifies Mr. Meekin's taste. He was a member of the Grolier Club and the University Club's Library Club.
