ELLIOTT & FRY, WINDOW & GROVE, DOWNEY, SARONY, THE LONDON STEREOSCOPIC & PHOTOGRAPHIC CO., ROBINSON & THOMPSON and others Stars of the theatre, circa 1860s-1880s A large album of 168 cartes and sixty-five cabinet portraits (one loosely laid in), the majority albumen prints, but including a few carbon prints mostly from the Wednesday Programme Gallery of Celebrities or Penny Portait series, fourteen hand-coloured, the former mounted five-per-page (lacking two), the latter mounted two per page in pre-cut window mounts, sitters identified and photographers' credited in pencil in a later hand on mounts, one cabinet portrait autographed in ink Beatrice Stella Campbell (Mrs. Patrick Campbell) on recto, a later inscription in ink on front free end, royal blue velvet, front cover with sunken diamond-shaped central panel and raised centrepiece with applied white metal medallion engraved WSEN July 30th 1872 , the medallion surrounded by separately applied design of two angels in high relief standing on pedestal base, applied white metal floral corner pieces, back cover similarly decorated but with medallion engraved VMH July 30th 1872 , two white metal clasps (velvet slightly rubbed), g.e., folio.
