English School, early 19th century The Heiau of Keakealani at Kailua, North Kona, in the Bay of Kaiakekua, Hawaii inscribed and indistinctly signed with a monogram 'Enlarged from the illustration in Kotzebues/"Voyage to the South Sea" Vol. I. BA' and titled and futher inscribed 'The Heiau of Keakealani at Kailua, North Kona, in the Bay of Kaiakekua, Hawaii, H.I. The Figures in the foreground are Princess Kinau (Mother of the Kings Kamehameha 4th & 5th) Princess/Kamamalu, and Keoni a Negro Attendant brought to the Island by Captain Cleveland.' on a slip of paper attatched to the mount watercolour heightened with white on paper 8 x 13½in. (20.3 x 34.2cm.) with a Baxter print of 'The reception of the Reverend J. Williams at Tanna in the South Seas, the day before he was massacred' (2)
