Ernest Augustus (1771-1851), King of Hanover. A German silver ewer and basin, Matthias, Hanover, circa 1840 fluted circular, the handle of the ewer rising from a mask of Neptune, both engraved with the initials EAR below a royal crown, 15 loth, maker's mark 'MATTHIAS' in a rectangle (Scheffler no. 1402), further struck with a post 1922 Vienna import mark the ewer, 30.7cm., 12in. high, the basin, 34cm., 13 3/8in. diameter 3233gr., 103oz. 18dwt.
