ERNST II. Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Reise...nach Aegyptian und ländern der Habab, Mensa und Borgos . Leipzig: Arnoldische Buchhandlung, 1865. Oblong 2° (420 x 525mm). 84pp text, chromolithographic title and 19 plates by Robert Kretschmer each mounted as issued on thick paper, lithographed map, four albumen prints from sketches mounted on one leaf. (Map and text leaves slightly discoloured and browned.) Unbound as issued in it's original cloth-backed portfolio (worn). Second edition. An interesting account of this early German expedition in Egypt and Abyssinia in 1862, first published in 1864. The work chronicles the expeditions' progress up and down the Nile to Luxor, and then down the Red Sea to Massawa in Abyssinia where the party treked inland to Mount Mensa and on to Keren. The plates include a number of hunting scenes. Kretschmer travelled as member of Duke Ernst's entourage.
