This is the second of several books by Charles Estienne of which Schreiber, The Estiennes , no.50, says 'These may be regarded as the first children's books, i.e. the first books produced specifically for the entertainment (unlike school-books) as well as the edification of a juvenile readership - as the last five words of the title clearly state'.
