Modern half morocco antique, FULL-MARGINED COPY, UNCUT. Provenance : Joseph Jerome de Lalande (1732-1807), astronomer involved in most of the major astronomical questions of his day, and friend and fellow-member in the Prussian Academy in Berlin with Euler (presentation inscription from the author on verso of *8 and continuing on recto of *1: "Pour Monsieur de Lalande de la part de [l'Au]teur"], and Lalande's marginal notes throughout, and inserted leaf containing his notes tipped-on to E5). FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY TO THE ASTRONOMER J.J. DE LALANDE. The presentation inscription was written while this copy was still in unbound sheets as it continues onto its conjugate leaf (*1.8). Lalande's extensive annotations throughout include extensive mathematical calculations. Lalande's acquaintance with Euler began when he became a fellow member of the Prussian Academy in Berlin in the early 1750s. A FINE ASSOCIATION COPY. Norman 737.
