Evans (Edward, 1st Baron Mountevans) Cheque signed ('ERGR Evans') for the sum of £10 drawn on Westminster Bank Limited, cancellation holes, two pence revenue stamp, London, 22 May 1942, mounted, framed and glazed, overall size 40.5 x 32.5cm. ***Evans was chosen by Robert Falcon Scott to be his second-in-command in the ill-fated expedition to the South Pole in 1910–1913, as captain of the expedition ship Terra Nova. He accompanied Scott to within 150 miles of the Pole, but later became seriously ill with scurvy and only narrowly survived the return journey.
