Scroll. Stenciled on paper, [France], ca.1922. The scroll presented is an unknown transcription of the story of the Exodus from Egypt, with anti-Semitic characteristics and matching illustrations. Moses asks Pharaoh to give him a passport for the Jews, in order to leave Egypt. The latter refuses. Later, the Jews ask to pay for exit and Pharaoh refuses again. The last illustration is of a pyramid on top of which is a snake, surrounded by marine creatures, crying: fish, an octopus, sea horse and two scorpions holding handkerchiefs with the letter "H". An inscription on the pyramid reads: "Garde-vous Bien De Garder "Un Juif Qui veut S'en Aller" [watch well the Jew who wants to go]. On the lower part of the leaf, in Latin, appears a signature of the creator of the scroll and the illustrations: M. Qvilliard, noting that it was created in 1922 and an additional year (blurred) in which changes were made. Egyptian motifs are integrated into the illustrations; the plagues are depicted through comics in a surrealist and fantastic style. The Jews are portrayed with a long nose and even with money bags. Height: 26 cm, length 446 cm. Poor condition, first part torn, spots throughout the scroll.
