FEDERALIST PERIOD]. BURR, Aaron (1756-1836), Vice-President . Autograph letter signed ("Aaron Burr") to William Ireson, Albany, 20 July 1791. 2¼ pages, folio, separated . Writing to his law partner only three months before he took his seat in the Senate, Burr contends with various legal matters before his departure, gives advice on handling several cases, and requests copies of books relevant to current politics: "Daniel Vardon...advertises Letters and Observations to Burke . If they are neither by Payne, Priestly, Towers or Loft, buy and send them to me. Buy also... Mackintosh's defense of the French Revolution against the accusations of Mr. Burke ." -- PORTER, David (1754-1808). Autograph letter signed twice to Governor Isaac Tichenor, New York, 15 December 1796. 2½ pp, 4to . THE ELECTION OF 1796. An interesting letter which addresses political events in 1796 from a Federalist perspective. Writing to the Governor of Vermont shortly after the elections, Porter states: "This day the poll closes with the election of Member of Congress for this City. cannot determine who he will be but great exertions are made for the old Demo . God grant they prove abortive." Alluding to Washington's Farewell Address, he writes: "Have just seen the answer of the Senate to the President's address - am pleased with firmness thereof." In the presidential election, Porter supports Adams: "several of the Eastern electors have given theirs against Mr. Pinckney so the only hope is now for Mr. Adams in which I think we shall not be disappointed." -- BOUDINOT, Elias (1740-1821). President, Continental Congress . Autograph letter signed ("Elisha Boudinot") to Governor Tichenor, New York, 12 Februray 1799. 1 p., folio, address leaf incomplete . "AN AGE OF EXCENTRICITY!". Boudinot provides an interesting commentary on the political state of the nation: "I am sorry that your state have so disgraced themselves by sending again as their Representative the infamous Lyon - but, we are in an age of excentricity! May we weather the storm!" Matthew Lyon (1749-1822), a Jeffersonian Republican, was convicted under the Sedition Act in 1798. Together three items . (3)
