Feeding the Kitten by Mark William Langlois (British, 1848-1924) Oil on Canvas 19th c., English Oil on canvas We are pleased to offer a fine quality painting by Mark William Langlois (British, 1848-1924) Pleasing rural genre scene showing four children watching a kitten licking cream from a saucer Signed and dated by the artist to the bottom left. Titled plaque to the frame Mark William Langlois was a 19th Century British painter. Langlois is known to have been born in Surrey to a father who engaged in various artistic occupations, such as goldsmith, watchmaker and art dealer. Langlois achieved some popularity with still life, landscape and genre scenes in watercolour and oil between 1862 and 1873, when he is known to have exhibited at the Royal Academy. There are newspaper reports in the 1870s and 80s of his paintings being auctioned by private collectors. Today his genre paintings in oil are still the most popular of his works at sales. Frame measures 57 x 66 cm / 22 1/2 x 26 in Set in original Victorian gilt frame Offered in very good condition. A few minor marks to frame commensurate with age. Ready to hang
