31.25" blade with etched military motif panels, leather and brass wire wrapped handle. Gold gilt embellished pommel and knuckle bow. Near the ricasso is etched maker's name N.P. Ames, Cutler, Springfield. Early style metal scabbard made without throat, with two bands and carrying rings. Condition: Pommel and knuckle bow still retain traces of the original gold gilt. Leather wrapping and wire in excellent condition. Blade is gunmetal grey with some light pitting at the tip of blade. Metal scabbard has been cleaned and has begun to turn to a nice dark brown. This a very rare sword and seldom comes up for sale. Probably less than 20 of these swords are known to exist.
