Flaubert, Gustave (1821-1880). AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED ("G.FLAUBERT") to Claude Popelin, about a recent accident in which he broke his leg, which proved to be more serious than at first thought, explaining that although the fracture of the fibula was minor, his foot looked like a pumpkin covered with red parchment; he gives a generally upbeat report since the swelling has gone down and he has much enjoyed the solitude and opportunity to rest, expressing the hope that his friend will visit, although the hospitality he can offer is only modest, as he cannot come to Paris, and indeed it will be a good month before he can descend the stairs from his bedroom ...L'accident a été plus sérieux qu'on ne l'a cru.
