Beschreibung:

Follower of Luca Giordano Moses Sustained by Aaron and Hur (Exodus 17:12) Brown ink and wash on paper Sight 14 1/8 x 11 1/4 inches (36 x 28.5 cm) According to Exodus, as the Israelites traveled from Egypt toward the land of Canaan, they were attacked at a place called Rephidim by the Amalekites. Joshua led the Israelite army into battle, which, as long as Moses held up his arms, had the upper hand. When Moses's arms grew tired and he lowered them, the battle would go against them. To ensure that the Israelite army would win the day, Moses's brother Aaron and their friend Hur supported Moses's arms until sunset, when the battle was finally won. C Estate of Ernest Hartmann
Paper toned; glued down to a second sheet of paper. Several restored holes in the upper right corner and in the background near Moses's face. Some minor staining.
