Property of a Distinguished Spanish Private Collection FOLLOWER OF TIZIANO VECELLIO, CALLED TITIANTHE PENITENT MAGDALENE oil on canvas, in an Italian Baroque style carved giltwood frameunframed: 83.7 x 62.1 cm.; 33 x 24½ in.framed: 208 x 114 cm.; 81⅞ x 44⅞ in. There is evidence of wear throughout the canvas and old, discoloured retouchings are visible scattered in her flesh tones. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a thick, streaky and rather opaque varnish, underneath which these retouchings are confirmed, and further revealed is a restored damage on the left side of the Magdalene's face, 4.5x8cm., as well as a repaired, horizontal tear through her neck, in a 2cm. band. In overall moderate condition. The lot is sold in the condition it is in at the time of sale. The
