First Edition. Provides information on the inhabitants (including Indians and French Canadians), culture, travel conditions, and accommodations in Nova Scotia, Presque Isle, York, along the St. Lawrence, and along the way to Port Huron and Niagara Falls. "The author, a veteran of the Peninsular War and an elder brother of Sir Francis Bond Head, later Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada, came to America in 1814. He remained for the ten months' sojourn described in this book, Nov. 1814-Aug. 1815, and returned in 1816 for five years' military duty at Halifax" - TPL 1015; Lande 1833; Sabin 31143. Angling bookplate of Henry A. Sherwin on the front pastedown. Lot Amendments Condition: Spine a bit faded, light edge wear; occasional foxing, signature in middle off-centered, evidence of bookplate removal on front free endpaper; else very good or better.
