Dee Dee’s Birthday (New York: Oxford University Press, 1952) First Edition. Original cloth binding in pictorial Dust Jacket. 6 x 6.5”, 32 unnumbered pages. Bright color illustrations; Happy New Year (Philadelphia and New York: J. B. Lippincott Company, 1961) Original cloth. In chipped Dust Jacket. 8 x 10”, 30 unnumbered pp. Ex-library with markings copies of Tommy and Dee Dee (New York: Oxford University Press, 1953) and Pot Bank (Philadelphia and New York: J. B. Lippincott Company,1956) Possibly the first Chinese-American children’s books both written and illustrated by an Asian author, though most of the characters were children in China rather than the US. Liang was a noted Chinese-born architect, an early protégé of Frank Lloyd Wright who helped design the United Nations Headquarters. He lived in both China and the US during much of his life, finally settling in California, where, in retirement, he became a pottery artist.
