Set of four aquatints, all hand-colored, after originals by Dean Wolstenholme Titles include Plate I Shooting / Going Out; an image of two sportsmen and three English pointers in front of a thatched cottage, setting out to go partridge hunting; Plate II Game Found, the sportsmen and dogs locating a covey of birds; Plate III Dogs Brought the Game & Reloading, two sportsmen reloading while the dogs rest after delivering a downed bird; and Plate IV Refreshing, the hunters sip from their flasks while one displays a large hare. Unframed plates are 9.75" x 12.5" (image only); 15" x 21" (entire sheet). Credits read Painted by D. Wolstenholme / Engraved by T. Sutherland / London, Published at R. Ackermann's, 101 Strand, May 1, 1823. Dean Wolstenholme (1757-1835) lived in Essex and was an avid hunter and sportsman and exhibited frequently at the Royal Academy. His son Dean Wolstenholme Jr. (1798-1882) collaborated on many of the paintings and prints with his father. See Wilder, 162-163. Condition: Very light toning.
