fourth edition, mezzotint portrait of George Stephenson (marginal water-staining), 71 double-page engraved plates, some also folding, with Appendix and 2 advertisement leaves at end, illustration and diagrams in text, some light foxing and offsetting to plates, ex-Railway Gazette library copy with a few stamps and presentation to the Railway Club on front free endpaper, modern cloth, [Ottley 2411], 1855 § Halden (G.M.) Setting Out of Tube Railways, new impression, folding plans, plates and illustrations, original cloth, spine repaired, splits to upper joint, [Ottley 1009], 1914 § Nicholson (Peter) The Guide to Railway Masonry: comprising a Complete Treatise on the Oblique Arch, folding engraved plates, lightly foxed, contemporary half calf, 1839 § Baker (R.) Long-Span Railway Bridges, 2 folding plates, original cloth, 1867 § Mills (W.H.) Railway Construction, illustrations, original buckram, split to upper joint, 1898, rubbed; and 9 others on railway construction and engineering including several Weale's treatises and a volume of engraved plates of bridges etc., v.s. (13) *** The second item deals primarily with the Poole St/Old St and Essex Rd/Drayton Park sections of the Great Northern & City tube, the only British deep-level line to be built to mainline loading gauge and conceived as a means of reaching the City whilst avoiding the King's Cross bottleneck. The remaining sections concern the Blackwall Tunnel & a tunnel sewer.
